Role of the Precinct Committeeman and Precinct Committeewoman

"Abraham Lincoln proved an extraordinarily shrewd grassroots politician, working to enlist voter support in the precincts for his party's candidates".^[1] His grassroots efforts in 1840 worked then and continue to work today.

Precinct Committeemen (women) are elected officials within their respective party.  They must file to be elected and may be placed on the ballot to be voted on by the voters.  On off years they may file with the County Executive Committee to fill vacancies.  If a vacancy exists they may be voted on by the members of the Executive Committee after attending three consecutive Executive Committee Meetings.

The Precinct Committeemen (women) are the delegates from their precinct on the county executive committee.  They provide information about the Party and its activities to the registered Republicans in your precinct. 

The North Suncoast Republican Club membership is comprised mainly from voters in Precincts 307 and 308.  The precincts are determined based on the number of registered voters who reside within the boundaries of the Precinct.  Precinct 308 is a relatively new precinct having been form within the last 3 years.  As the numbers of registered voters grow so too will the number of Precincts. 

The Supervisor of Elections uses precincts to help manage the voters during elections.  Candidates use the precincts to help manage their campaigns.  Precinct Committeemen (women) are the conduit between the voters, the elected officials and the candidates.  They provide updated information to the voters about their elected officials, and help candidates get elected by calling on the voters within their precincts.  If you are interested in learning more or are interested in becoming a Precinct Committeeman or Precinct Committeewomen click on Contact Us and send us a note.  A member will be in touch with you shortly.
